Atomic Drag-Atomic drag review
Today I’m going to be reviewing the self titled EP ‘Atomic Drag’ by Atomic Drag!
Atomic Drag is a instrumental surf punk garage rock artist from the north coast of Northern Ireland!
I’m going to have to shamefully admit that I have never heard of an instrumental rock song before, let alone a instrumental surf punk garage rock song before so I was quite intrigued on what I was about to listen to.With all of those genres my expectations were high and this EP did not disappoint one bit.
All four songs from this EP have a high energy surf motif mixed with amazing synths and killer guitar.It almost kind of gives off the same feeling of watching Scooby Doo after coming home from school as a kid.That is if Scooby Doo was a bit darker, horror centered and more rad.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s impatient and sometimes finds themselves losing interest and getting bored while listening to an instrumental song from the lack of vocals.Sometimes people assume that instrumental songs aren’t as good as songs with vocals and you may be thinking the exact same thing but I am being 100% honest when I say that throughout listening to this EP I was hooked.I listened to it all the way through in one sitting and it felt like there was a surprise each time a new song started.
My favorite track from this EP was ‘Satan Built My Hotrod’.If you want a piece of gothic inspired horror movie nostalgia then look no further! I loved the clips of audio from old movies that were added into the song.Many artists like Billie Eilish and Eminem have done it and I think it can really give a song a lot more character!
Overall I give ‘Atomic Drag’ 8/10 slices.If you like black and white films or anything surf rock or those cheesy old horror movies where you can totally tell that the monster is just someone wearing a costume you’ll definitely love this EP!
