Are we there yet? Windmills and Giants review

Today I will be reviewing ‘Are we there yet?’ by Windmills and Giants.

‘Are We There Yet?’ Is the new album from Windmills and Giants following the release of their last album from 2018 ‘Somehow The Ship Remained Floating’. Compared to their last album, ‘Are We There Yet?’ takes a more modern path and touches on darker vibes.

Windmills and Giants is a creative duo from Norway. They take inspiration from American artists like Jason Isbell, and Iron & Wine, but also fellow Norwegians like Minor Majority and Madrugada. Combining traditional musical elements often associated with Nashville, and modern songwriting, Windmills and Giants creates a sound that feels familiar and refreshing.

The pandemic has impacted everyone in different ways especially artists, Windmills and Giants discovered new music in 2020 during the making of ‘Are We There Yet?’ and along the way resulted in songs that was unlike anything from their previous albums. Their previous albums have a more acoustic folk-like sound and with this album Windmills and Giants have managed to keep the same folk sound but with a more modern and alternative edge.

I think it’s really refreshing when artists keep their roots of a certain genre but put different spins on it from album to album which makes something that multiple groups of music lovers can enjoy!

It was a bit hard to decide but my favorite track from this album was ‘Figure It Out’. It was optimistically dark in the best way and it was deeply thought provoking just like the rest of the album. I felt like the tone of the song was perfect and the lyrics matched almost perfectly with the laid back but solemn and dreamy melody.

Overall I give ‘Are We There Yet?’ 8/10 slices! If you are a fan of bands like The Arctic Monkeys or iron and wine I highly suggest giving this album a listen!
